Browntown Area Recreation Cheese Country Recreation Trail …..
Browntown residents have access to the “Cheese Country Recreation Trail which is aMulti-use trail open for use by ATVs, mini bikes, horses, hikers, mountain bikes, and snowmobiles. The trail winds for 47 miles through scenic areas of Green, Lafayette, and Iowa counties. All-terrain vehicles are authorized to drive the Village Streets (except Cty MSouth of the Fire House) from the hours of 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. The All-terrain vehicle must be registered with the DNR and speed limit is 10 mph. Routes are designated by signs.Season trail passes are available at the Trailside Inn. The trail was first used in 1880 whenthe Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railway was built under the watchful eye of William“Grizzly” Brown the founder of Browntown. Devils T-Table …… Enjoy a stroll to the “Devils T-Table along Skinner Creek. The Devil’s Tea Table is a rock formation enjoyed by many in the early life of Browntown. Young people skated to it in the winter time and went there for picnics in the summer. You can still enjoy the T-Table by hiking the trail located across from the “Garden Patch” on the north entrance of Browntown along Skinner Creek. Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area ….. Cadiz Springs is just east of Browntown on Cadiz Springs Road. The Park offers hiking trails, picnic areas, two man-made lakes, fishing and a swimming beach. A perfect place tospend a hot summer afternoon or ice fish in the winter. Friends of Cadiz Springs Park volunteer to keep the park looking great. Pecatonica River ….. Many residents enjoy the chance to float down the Pecatonica River via canoe or kayak.The river is located just south of the village of Browntown by County B where you can put in at the bridge and float down to Martintown and then on to Winslow, Illinois. Fishing is alsovery popular on the Pecatonica River. Skinner Creek ….. Located on the north side of the Village of Browntown is Skinner Creek. Just stand on the old bridge and throw in a line as you relax and listen to the sweet sounds of birds singing,or geese and sand hill cranes flying over. Just as night time starts to settle in you might evenhear the howls of a coyote. Scenic Drives ….. Take any of the many scenic country roads around Browntown. Oak, maple and hickory forests, wildflowers and tree-lined fence rows transport you into a tranquil countryside oasis.You will discover dairy, hog and cattle farms, many of which have been operating in the same family for over 100 years. Keep an eye open for deer, especially at dusk. Two Trails Campground…… Camp sites $25.00 a night with power or primitive $15 a night.
